Fuku Study

The Sailor Starlights have some of the most unique Sailor fuku in the entire series. Although somewhat revealing, and perhaps meant to be suggestive, these outfits should not be written off simply as rejects from the closet of a pornography star. Each of the three is a unique work of art. And, after a while, these outfits can really grow on you.

The Sailor Starlight fuku, although it appears in three different variations, has a few common elements in each design. The tiara is beaded, and features a five-pointed gold star rested on the forehead. All three Starlights wear star earrings, one in each ear: a golden, five-pointed star, of course. Around the neck is the black sailor collar. The breasts are covered with a simply-designed brassiere, over which is worn black fabric and the obligatory centerpiece for the chest. In this case, that would be a star brooch with wings. The belly is exposed, but two beaded belts are twisted around the waist, fastened by a five-pointed star on the stomach. The Starlights wear short leather hotpants instead of a skirt. All three of them wear leather gloves that extend above the elbow, and high-heeled leather boots that extend above the knee. The differences in the outfits arise when we consider neck and arm ornamentation.

Sailor Starfighter will be our first subject of analysis. The theme color of her fuku is blue. Fighter wears a wide leather belt around her neck, fastened with a large buckle. She wears the same on both her arms, just above her gloves. Click here for a larger scan.

Sailor Starmaker wears a fuku with a violet-colored motif. Maker wears three studded dog collars around her neck. I'm not exactly sure what she is wearing on her arms. It looks like three belts, but they don't wrap all the way around. It could be some sort of armlet. In the Materials Collection artbook, Naoko Takeuchi labeled Maker's arm thingies as "heavy metal iron protectors." Click here for a larger scan.

Sailor Starhealer easily has the coolest fuku of the three. Her theme color is pale green. She wears two studded (or perhaps beaded) chokers criss-crossed around her neck. She does not really wear anything on her arms. Healer wears three beaded bracelets around her wrists, worn over her gloves. Click here for a larger scan.

Obviously, the Starlight fuku is very different from the Sailor fuku of the Senshi of the Sol system. But similarities do exist between the two. Primarily, of course, there is the sailor collar - the ONLY feature that is common to EVERY SINGLE Sailor Senshi fuku in existence.
